Did you know the first e-book was created 50 years ago? [Project Gutenberg](https://www.gutenberg.org/about) founder Michael Hart typed the United States Declaration of Independence into a computer and transmitted it to other users on a computer network, making it the first recognized version of an e-book. Today, Project Gutenberg is one of the largest collections of free e-books in the world.

As we celebrate this [extraordinary milestone](https://scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2021/07/13/happy-birthday-to-the-ebook/), we reflect on how useful e-books are to conducting research from any location, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only do e-books eliminate the burden of carrying multiple or heavy books, or experiencing the frustration of missing or torn pages, they can be accessed from any device. According to the [Association of American Publishers](https://publishers.org/news/aap-november-2020-statshot-report-publishing-industry-up-24-5-for-month-up-0-8-year-to-date/), e-book sales were up 15.2 percent, and generated $1,000,000,000 USD for the first eleven months of 2020.

As a leading provider of research databases, e-journals, magazine subscriptions, e-books and discovery service to libraries of all kinds, EBSCO offers a wide selection of e-book options, models and collection types. Libraries can access more than 2,400,000 e-books and more than 300,000 DRM-free selections, combined in an accessible mobile app.

Check out EBSCO’s list of new and updated e-book and audiobook collections for June and July 2021, including five different collections on Indigenous Studies, a topic that continues to be a top pick for many academic institutions.
