 4 March 2020

Women’s rights and issues continue to gain momentum, but there is always more work to be done. Every March, Women’s History Month allows for reflection and education over where we’ve been, where we are now and where we need to go to achieve equality for everyone. It’s also an opportunity to honor strong female activists, leaders, creators, pioneers, athletes and artists that have furthered, and continue to strengthen, the role and visibility of women in the world.

Since libraries are uniquely positioned to influence readers of all backgrounds, ethnicities and cultures, here are some popular reading picks by and about women, along with some free resources to help promote them.

#### E-Books that Elevate and Empower Women of All Ages

The women’s movement is changing the way women are viewed around the world and the need for on-the-go access to educational resources that support the movement. Here are some e-books that are creating sparks in the quest for equal rights, climate change and health.

##### Join the Girl Power Movement and Fight Climate Change

*No One Is Too Small to Make a Difference*, by Greta Thunberg

##### Success Story About Three Fearless Female Entrepreneurs

*Boss Lady: How Three Women Entrepreneurs Built Successful Big Businesses in the Mid-Twentieth Century*, by Edith Sparks

##### Tackle Tough Health Issues Affecting Women

*Ethical Issues in Women's Healthcare: Practice and Policy*, by Lori D'Agincourt-Canning

#### Awe-Inspiring Audiobooks By and About Women

Audiobooks continue to rise in popularity, not only for their convenient, on-the-go format but also because they increase reading levels, introduce new vocabulary and foreign languages, and instill good listening skills, particularly for reluctant readers. The following popular audiobook selections are written by talented and forward-thinking ladies.

##### Strong Audiobook Narration by a Female

*The Testaments*, written by Margaret Atwood and narrated by actress Ann Dowd

##### Self-Care Advice from Popular Personal Productivity Expert

*The Exhaustion Cure: Up Your Energy from Low to Go in 21 Days*, written by personal productivity expert Laura Stack and narrated by Bernadette Dunne.

##### Hot Off the Press (Available in late March 2020)

*More Myself: A Journey*, written by Alicia Keys and narrated by Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama and others.

#### Female-Powered Publishers

Naturally, supporters of the women’s movement want to read literature from publishers that are dedicated to the empowerment of women, but it isn’t always clear which publishers are truly driving change and which ones are more focused on the bottom line. Here are two publishers moving the needle and continually promoting female empowerment:

##### The Feminist Press at CUNY

##### DiversityComm, Inc.
