My healthcare experience is varied, but most of my clinical experience is in critical care. When I am not working, I spend time caring for my older parents, jigsaw puzzling, traveling, cooking, cuddling my dog, and taking in tennis tournaments. ***What did you do prior to joining Dynamic Health’s clinical editor team?*** Research and writing are things I have always enjoyed. While working full-time in the clinical setting, I took on freelance side jobs as a clinical data analyst, curriculum writer, music reviewer, and guidebook contributor. After that I worked as a contract writer for EBSCO for about 14 years. Gaining so much experience contract writing made it easy to transition into the Clinical Editor role. ***What inspired you to become a healthcare professional?*** As a child I saw myself becoming a veterinarian, but later realized that nursing offered the chance to study science and, as a profession, the possibility of working in a broad range of specialties and roles. I also really liked the idea of following in the footsteps of my grandmother who was an RN. ***What drew you to work at EBSCO on our clinical decisions products?*** As a critical care nurse, I knew the best evidence improved patient outcomes, but when I was at the bedside, evidence was not easily accessible. I love that my job involves staying current on the most current, relevant evidence and putting it into a digestible format for use at the bedside. I also like the idea that our products can help less experienced clinicians gain confidence in their knowledge and skills. ***What makes you passionate about working in healthcare?*** There are so many aspects of my career that I have loved, from patient teaching to managing crises. But I think what I enjoy most is that healthcare is always evolving, so there is always something new to learn or a new challenge to overcome. Healthcare is never boring. ***What is your advice for people who are thinking about joining the healthcare space?*** Healthcare can be challenging, both mentally and physically, but it is an excellent choice for people seeking a career with purpose. Knowing that your work improves the wellbeing of others is both humbling and fulfilling. It also offers a wide variety of roles and avenues for advancement, so if you seek new challenges or just want to change course, healthcare is a great field to be in. ***Can you talk a little bit about your work on Dynamic Health?*** My daily work involves writing and improving critical care skills and decision support tools. These products are concise, accurate, and easy to understand resources for clinicians working at the bedside. I also participate in quality and process improvement projects, peer review, and editor training.
