Reading) とは欧米の習慣で、その名の通り夏季休暇中にこそ本を読もうというものです。 特にほとんどの米国の公共図書館では、児童・学生が夏休みを取る6月～8月の期間に、読書習慣を身に付けるためのプログラムとして “Summer Reading Program” と呼ばれる読書推進プログラムが行われています。 このプログラムは読書・図書館利用を推奨するための取り組みとして1890年代に初めて行われ、以来100年以上にわたって続けられています。このプログラムでは、読書記録をつけるなど、子どもも大人も読書を促進するための様々な活動に参加します。また著名人が “サマー・リーディング・リスト” という、これから読む本のリストを共有する文化もあります。 例えば、下記は元アメリカ大統領のバラク=オバマ氏が
