Better Discovery Starts with EBSCO Discovery Service
EBSCO Discovery Service, or EDS, delivers relevant research results for your users through a fully customizable single-search experience and an interface designed and informed by user research.
When a user types the search term into the search box, EDS recommends popular searches and publications.
It then returns a modern results list of both your print and digital resources for seamless access to the most relevant content for a user’s search.
Results can easily be filtered using quick filter options or the full filter panel.
Researchers will see detailed metadata for each entry, along with clear and easy-to-understand indicators for peer-review status and record availability, including the location and status of print books.
Plus, libraries have the flexibility to customize how this information is displayed to best meet their needs.
EDS has the most comprehensive full-text searching capabilities of any discovery service and is the only one that prioritizes subject indexing.
This focus on subject precision allows users to access high-quality, relevant research faster than other discovery services.
Additional EDS search enhancements include Research Starter placards that can help start a user's research journey.
If there is an exact match for a publication - whether it's a book, magazine or journal - it will be shown in the Publication placard at the top of the results list.
Should the user want to search for their topic within a particular publication, they can enter the publication's name in the search box to access the Exact Match Placard.
This tool has a search box of its own for searching specifically within that publication.
Users can conduct advanced searches using Guided-Style Find fields to create a more targeted search, as well as an AI-assisted search feature that allows users to search using their natural language.
After running an AI-assisted search, users can also access suggested searches to expand on their idea.
EDS offers an array of tools directly on the results list for users to save, cite, add to a project, share, and even open or download the full text of an article.
They can choose the citation format as well as copy the citation or export it to tools like NoodleTools or Zotero.
Plus they can share to Google Drive, Google Classroom or OneDrive, or create a link to share on other platforms.
Users can also email the result including full text when available.
Users can access their saved items, projects, recent activity, holds and more at any time from the MyEBSCO dropdown.
To quickly learn more about an article to see if it’s the right fit, users can click the AI Insights button to generate 2-5 key insights about the article’s content.
For quick access to an e-book, EDS lets users download an entire EBSCO eBook right from the results list.
If a user only needs a few chapters, they can use the table of contents from the detailed record page or within the eBook viewer to navigate to and download sections of the book.
EDS further enhances the research experience through linked data features powered by the EBSCO Scholarly Graph.
These features connect metadata across records to help users discover more as they research, such as which articles are referenced in a work, how that work has impacted subsequent research, who the key contributors are and what else they’ve worked on and additional works that may be of interest.
For libraries with Full Text Finder, included with EDS, a new Publication Finder user interface offers browsing by alphabet, database and hierarchical subject, as well as a search box to quickly locate publications.
EDS also enhances the research experience by offering seamless integrations with third party applications.
Users can connect and chat instantly with librarians using the live chat feature.
You can also integrate LibGuides, links to supplemental sources, digital archives and more to create the most comprehensive search results for your users.
EBSCO developed the EDS user experience based on extensive research, user studies and customer feedback to create the best research experience for modern users.
EBSCO’s accessibility-first approach to design makes the interface better for all users.
It's built for cross-device research on both desktop and mobile platforms.
EBSCO Mobile is also free and available to download for all users, allowing seamless authentication and access to content anytime, anywhere.
EDS harnesses the proven value of EBSCO’s search technology, delivering precise and meaningful results across billions of records to millions of users.
By combining the excellence of EBSCO’s search technology with an intuitive user interface that surfaces all your library resources, your users can take even greater advantage of all your library has to offer.
