IPSWICH, Mass. — Oct. 30, 2025 — After more than a decade on its legacy system, Heritage University’s Donald K. C. North Library will implement FOLIO as its next-generation library services platform (LSP), with implementation and hosting support from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO). The library, scheduled to go live in spring 2026, will become the first academic library in Washington to adopt the open-source platform with EBSCO’s support.
Serving nearly 1,000 students, the Donald K. C. North Library maintains a collection of more than 65,000 volumes and operates with a lean staff. By migrating to FOLIO, the library will gain a modern, flexible system that scales to its needs by streamlining operations, enhancing discovery, and reducing the burden on local infrastructure and staffing. FOLIO’s scalable, modular architecture supports libraries of all types — from national libraries and leading research universities to smaller, mission-driven institutions — by enabling seamless integration with other solutions while remaining highly extendable and customizable.
EBSCO FOLIO Services streamlines adoption for institutions like Heritage University and more than 300 libraries worldwide by delivering a fully hosted solution tailored to each institution’s specific needs and resources. As part of the transition, Heritage will also integrate EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS) and GOBI with FOLIO to strengthen front-end discovery and improve the overall user experience.
Daniel Liestman, Library Director and Reference Librarian at Heritage University, says the transition enhances the library’s mission. “By integrating FOLIO with EDS and GOBI, we’re better aligning our technology with our commitment to empowering users and staff in their research and work. This move strengthens our ability to provide inclusive, efficient and user-centered services that directly support student and faculty success.”

Kathy McCarthy, SaaS Director at EBSCO Information Services, notes that Heritage’s decision underscores the increasing momentum behind EBSCO FOLIO. “FOLIO represents a sustainable, community-driven solution that meets diverse library needs. With its scalable architecture, FOLIO offers an intuitive, easy-to-learn interface for smaller institutions like Heritage University, eliminating unnecessary complexity found in other ILSs. ”
