The University of Ghana Library System (UGLS) has implemented EBSCO FOLIO, the modern, open-source Library Services Platform (LSP) hosted and supported by EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO). The platform modernizes back-office library operations, enabling staff to deliver resources more efficiently and supports the university’s technology-driven approach to teaching, learning and research.
Following a comprehensive evaluation, the UGLS concluded that EBSCO FOLIO’s vendor-neutral, API-driven design best supports integrated analytics, research data workflows and future-ready campus systems.
FOLIO’s open architecture allows our library and academic computing staff to adapt workflows as institutional needs evolve while helping shape future enhancements.

Francis Awuye-Kpobi, head of the Academic Computing Unit, added, “We were highly satisfied with the project management throughout the deployment process, as well as the post-implementation support we have received to date.”
As FOLIO’s presence in the ILS market grows, the community now includes more than 280 EBSCO-supported libraries worldwide, ranging from large research universities to community colleges and public libraries. In Africa, a growing number of institutions are adopting FOLIO, demonstrating the continent’s increasing engagement in this global ecosystem. This expanding community offers the University of Ghana opportunities for collaboration, shared innovation and faster access to features tailored to regional needs.
“Each FOLIO implementation in Sub-Saharan Africa highlights the region’s commitment to forward-looking library technology,” said Bronwyn Rassmann, director of SaaS innovation, Sub-Saharan Africa at EBSCO Information Services. “We are delighted to support the University of Ghana as it leverages the flexibility and community-driven model of EBSCO FOLIO.”
