IPSWICH, Mass. — Oct. 23, 2025 — Through its new membership with MOBIUS, the Wichita State University Libraries (WSU) has officially adopted the FOLIO platform with implementation and hosting support from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO). Going live on September 16 as part of the consortium’s shared tenant, WSU now participates in a regional network that simultaneously expands access to resources and enhances library innovation worldwide. Later this fall, the university will also launch OpenRS, the Open Library Foundation’s open-source resource-sharing platform, to further improve knowledge access and streamline the delivery of materials across consortia.

In 2024, MOBIUS went live with FOLIO and OpenRS, providing its member libraries access to the modern, cloud-based system and resource-sharing coalition. WSU joins a network of academic, special and public libraries, giving its students, faculty and staff access to a catalog of over 30 million items across 73 member libraries — complementing WSU’s two million volumes and wide-ranging digital collections.

At the same time, WSU has become part of the global FOLIO community, which includes more than 300 libraries supported by EBSCO. Together, these regional and international networks enable WSU to expand services, streamline operations and contribute to a broader exchange of ideas that strengthens library services worldwide.

Donna Bacon, Executive Director of MOBIUS, emphasized the importance of Wichita State’s membership in strengthening collaboration and expanding access across the consortium. “MOBIUS is excited to welcome Wichita State University as our newest member library. With the support of EBSCO FOLIO, we are taking an important step in strengthening collaboration and expanding access to knowledge across our network and beyond. We look forward to working together to share resources, spark innovation and enrich the academic experience for students, faculty and communities throughout the region.”

Brent Mai, Dean of University Libraries at Wichita State, underscored how joining MOBIUS and adopting FOLIO will expand opportunities for its students and faculty while advancing the university’s mission. “Joining MOBIUS opens new doors for our students and faculty to access resources and collaborate with peer institutions. Coupled with our adoption of FOLIO, we are positioning Wichita State to deliver innovative, sustainable library services that support learning, research and discovery. With EBSCO providing the FOLIO expertise and support, and MOBIUS offering a strong resource-sharing network, we truly have the best of both worlds.”

Gar Sydnor, Executive Vice President, Research Databases and Library Services at EBSCO Information Services, emphasized the importance of supporting both consortia and individual libraries, noting that shared resources and open-source solutions build stronger communities and foster innovation. “Wichita State’s move to FOLIO within the MOBIUS network demonstrates how libraries working together — even more complex and layered systems like consortia — can use shared resources and open-source technology to strengthen communities and lower costs. We are proud to support Wichita State University and MOBIUS in providing these cost-effective services and benefits.”
